My wealth of mental health knowledge is derived from 8+ years of professional experience working in various social service fields (corrections, education, and Indigenous-led non-profit). I also obtain a Bachelor of Arts with Majors in Psychology and Sociology from the University of the Fraser Valley. Within these institutions, I have prioritized social justice advocacy and have supported clients with a diverse range of intersectional identities and mental health needs e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, addictions, grief and loss, and 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming care, to name a few. My years of professional experience in the public mental health sector have provided valuable, and irreplaceable insights regarding client accessibility to mental health services, system navigation barriers, and effective counselling practices. I continue to uphold and strongly believe in offering these standards of practice as a counsellor in the private sector.
Are you ready to dive in?
I respectfully acknowledge how starting counselling for the first time or reintegrating back into therapeutic services can feel scary and overwhelming. It can also be extremely challenging finding a new mental health professional that you can be open with and trust. Connecting with a counsellor that aligns with your personal needs is extremely beneficial, impactful on the overall therapeutic process, as well as assists with the progression of your individual goals. When accessing counselling and/or consultation services from me, you will receive meaningful, and authentic human-to-human support from a transparent, charismatic counsellor who has a lively personality. Additionally, my prioritization of client-counsellor collaboration supports trust building within the therapeutic relationship, strengthens client autonomy, and decision-making over their own life. My goal as a counsellor is to support you with gaining the knowledge and skills to help you improve your overall well-being.
I utilize holistic, integrated, strength-based and client-centered approaches. Some therapeutic interventions that I am experienced with includes, Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), as well as Queer and Feminist theoretical perspectives. As a motivated counsellor and person, I am continually expanding my own professional and clinical skills.
Throughout my professional and educational career, I have always been passionate about gender and sexuality. I am a queer white cis woman and am dedicated towards advocating for equity and inclusivity of systemically marginalized communities within my personal and professional platforms. My lived experience as a queer woman has exposed me to the impacts of systemic oppression that my 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying peers frequently face. Unfortunately, these harmful biases, and prejudices also creep into the mental health profession, and therefore, can make it even more challenging for 2SLGBTQIA+ identifying folx to access affirming and quality mental health services. As a counsellor, I acknowledge my own, and clients’ identities as strengths. I continue to fight against systemic oppression, discrimination, micro-aggressions, and their various chameleon-like forms by providing affirming mental health services that encourage resiliency, representation, celebration of diversity and fluid expression, as well as the experiences of the individuals among it.
My family lineage are uninvited settlers of English, Irish and Scottish descent. We also have the privilege of living, working and playing from the shared traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓wɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), Máthxwi (Matsqui), and SEMYOME (Semiahmoo) First Nations, colonially known as Langley, British Columbia. I have a beautiful growing family, and supportive wife. Outside of sessions with my clients, I am a busy and active mom, working on our family farm, hiking, or playing sports like hockey. My miniature Dachshund Felix, and barn cat Guinness are typically at my side or close by, as they are a huge part of the family.
