Life experiences, the people we meet along the way, and of course our “pet family members”, shape who we are. At times, these may also be our strongest internal and external resources that help us manage the challenging moments. The heart, compassion and loyalty of Wild Daisy Counselling and Consultation was largely influenced by Brittany and her wife’s miniature Dachshund, Daisy.
On her wife’s thirteenth birthday, she hand-picked Daisy (the smallest of the litter), from a local farm. Meeting and falling in love at fifteen and sixteen years old, Brittany and her wife began building a life together, and so did Brittany’s relationship with Daisy. From that moment on, Daisy taught Brittany and her wife responsibility, patience, communication, how to love, kindness, problem-solving, and other valuable life skills as they navigated their lives together through various milestones, and new chapters. At eighteen and a half years old, and an amazing life lived, Daisy sadly passed away. To which also happened to be just a week before their first child was born.
The grief and loss of Daisy will always exist, but her influenced values continue to guide, and inspire the upcoming chapters of Brittany and her family’s lives. Whether that be as a mental health provider, new parents, or community members, Daisy is the heart and soul behind genuine, and person-centered mental health services.
